Earlier in the year the popular streaming platform, Netflix blessed its users with the launch of ‘Play Something.’ This feature was introduced as a way to help viewers who may for one reason or the other be suffering from decision fatigue or simply indecisive about what they want to watch. The feature had the ability to play anything that may suit users based on their taste at the end of the day. Now, Amazon has just introduced a smart way viewers can get ahead. Users can simply ask Alexa to play something for them on Netflix.

As you may already, Alexa is a virtual assistant technology developed by Amazon. It was first introduced in the Amazon Echo Smart Speakers, Echo Dot, Echo Studio, and Amazon Tap speakers developed by Amazon Lab126. Alexa is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news. Alexa can also control several smart devices using itself as a home automation system.

Amazon customers in the US and Canada who are Fire TV users can now simply say to their remotes “Alexa, Play Something on Netflix,” and immediately the streaming service will put on a show or a movie that the user might like. This however depends on what such users have been watching on the platform in the past.

To enjoy this service, users must first have a Fire TV remote to issue this voice command. For users that have an Omni series Fire TV, which was released earlier in September, they can simply issue these commands completely hands-free. According to Charlotte Maines, Director of Fire TV in a statement said that “Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen that Fire TV customers that used voice engaged with content almost twice as much as those who didn’t. With Fire TV and Netflix’s ‘Play Something,’ we can quickly help customers find the TV show or movie that’s right for them.”

Netflix’s “Play Something” feature first surfaced on TV devices back in April and appears as a Play Something button users can access across the app. When it finally appeared on Android in October, a Netflix spokesperson hinted that testing for iOS will begin in the coming months.

Since the addition of the play something feature, positive reviews have continued to the order of the day as the majority of the populace has taken to commend efforts of the video streaming platform. Netflix decided to take out time to acknowledge a few tweets that praised the new feature. The video-sharing platform believes that the shuffle mode feature isn’t just giving its numerous users easier ways to watch their favourite movies or series, but a creative means to retain users on the app. Netflix recently rolled out gaming content on its billion-dollar entertainment mega streaming platform. Over and over again Netflix has proven it is truly a global brand that cares so much about its customers.
