Version 25.2 of Premiere Pro is out this week, bringing tools for finding, translating, and extending video footage from beta to general availability for all users. Adobe is updating Premiere Pro with AI-powered features that aim to give creatives faster and better video editing results.
The introduction is with a number of new capabilities for After Effects and Premiere Pro. These features, which were revealed on Wednesday, will be on display at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2025 in Las Vegas. The business claims to have improved its platforms and added artificial intelligence (AI) workflow tools after receiving input from expert editors and motion designers. The most noteworthy is Premiere Pro’s Generative expand function, which lets users expand clips with 4K quality Firefly-generated video.
The business described the additional capabilities that Premiere Pro and After Effects are now getting in a blog post. In addition to Generative Extend, Premiere Pro will also gain the Premiere Colour Management tool, an AI-powered search panel, and auto translation features.
Adobe’s most noteworthy first introduction was the Generative Extend, which Adobe announced in October, last year as one of the first tools fuelled by its Firefly generative AI video model. The company’s proprietary Adobe Firefly video generating AI technology powers it. This feature lets users extend clips by up to two seconds, giving them more options for transitions or fixing unexpected movements without having to reshoot footage. While it won’t extend speech or music, Generative Extend can now generate clips in 4K quality and extend ambient background audio for up to ten seconds for audio alone or two seconds when combined with video extension. Users can add a text prompt to produce desired footage and sounds. According to the corporation, this will provide editors additional options for transitions and allow them to make up for unforeseen motions and cuts without having to reshoot.
Up to ten seconds of ambient background audio or two seconds of video clips can be added using Generative Extend. Two seconds of video can be captured by pairing the two modalities. Speech or music cannot be added or extended by the tool.
According to Adobe, Premiere Pro customers will be able to utilize Generative Extend for free for a limited period of time. The quantity of Firefly generative credits required to create AI-generated clips will then vary depending on the video size, frame rate, and format. Creative Cloud membership levels provide users a monthly credit allotment ranging from 25 to 1,000. The cost of an Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Cloud membership subscription costs between $8.61 and $10 USD per month.
A new search panel driven by AI and Media Intelligence technologies is another innovation. The tool allows editors to use a natural language search query to locate the required clip in the library. According to Adobe, among other things, the tool can identify places, objects, and camera angles.
Users may also look for spoken phrases, images, or embedded metadata like camera kind or shot data. Because it is an on-device capability, users may search for footage without an Internet connection. According to the corporation, AI models are not trained using user data.
Additionally, Adobe plans to incorporate the Premiere Colour Management feature into Premiere Pro. This user-friendly colour management program adds colour profiles to raw and log video. Editors can rapidly choose from six presets or experiment with a variety of choices using the customization tool. Additionally, Premiere Pro will be able to use AI to automatically translate movie subtitles into 27 other languages.
There are also some notable advancements in After Effects. The platform’s new High Performance Preview Playback function re-caches compositions using the computer’s local storage and RAM, allowing users to preview their full composition without having to wait a long time. It is also growing better at HDR monitoring and creating 3D compositions.
A new wide-gamut colour pipeline and Premiere Colour Management, which automatically converts log and raw files to SDR or HDR without lookup tables to make it easier to jump straight into editing, are also included in the latest version of Premiere Pro. The AI-powered Search panel detects the content of clips in your video library and allows users to search for footage using text descriptions that include objects, locations, camera angles, and effects, such as “close-ups of hands working in a kitchen.”
Additionally, Premiere Pro can now automatically translate video captions into 27 other languages using AI, allowing users to view numerous caption tracks at once while editing. Additionally, Adobe claims that the Premiere Pro update improves speed and performance on Windows and Apple hardware devices.
After Effects 25.2, which comes with new HDR monitoring features, animation controls, support for 3D FBX models, and dynamic ambient light effects, is being released with the most recent version of Premiere Pro. Additionally, a new caching mechanism that uses both RAM and local drives instead of just RAM makes it simpler to evaluate lengthier compositions with a new High Performance evaluate Playback function.
