Accelerated Reels on Instagram Like TikTok

On Thursday, Meta revealed a new tool that Instagram users will soon be able to enjoy. A much-needed feature for Reels has been added by Instagram: users may now view the little video snippets at double the pace if they so want.

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is stealing yet another TikTok function. This time, users may long press on the right or left side of their screen to play a reel at twice the speed.

Those who enjoy watching Reels, Instagram’s short video platform that rivals TikTok, should particularly benefit from this new feature. Users may now fast-forward Reels movies thanks to the update.

It seems superfluous given that reels are often only a minute or two long. However, Instagram did increase the duration of Reels to three minutes in January, so lengthier videos are now entering the Reels system.

While some users will definitely enjoy the new feature, others notably producers may be concerned about how the short video format is harming people’s ability to focus on longer material.

Videos on TikTok could only be 15 seconds long when it initially started. TikTok began to accept lengthier videos as the years went by and the app’s popularity grew. Because users have been conditioned to consume information more fast, TikTok included the ability for users to speed up videos.

Additionally, Instagram Reels began by enabling users to upload movies that were no longer than 15 seconds. Videos up to three minutes in length can now be shared by users. Similar to TikTok, Instagram hopes that the new fast-forward feature will allow users to see more material more rapidly.

As mentioned, it has been a much-needed update, so it could be helpful.

Since the purpose of Reels is to provide users with brief, bite-sized entertainment, the option to fast-forward a video enhances the likelihood that a viewer will actually finish lengthy films. This can be linked to worries that our attention spans and capacity to concentrate on longer-form material may be adversely affected by the increase of short-form video content.

It is not surprising that Instagram Reels is incorporating several features from TikTok, as the platform is a straight clone of the short-form video site. Since Instagram’s Remix function is a replica of TikTok’s Duet tool, this isn’t the first time the platform has done this either.

In line with Instagram: “We’re introducing the option to play an Instagram reel at double the pace internationally today. As you interact with friends over material you love and appreciate, we believe that being able to fast forward gives you more control over your Reels experience, which has been a widely requested feature from our community.

You may long-press on the left or right side of the screen while a reel is playing to view it at twice speed. After then, the video will play twice as fast until you release it.

At this point, there are just two playback speed options: two times or nothing. However, you can still skip forward as usual to reach the punchline more quickly.

Is it going to win? Indeed, faster watching is made possible by the quick speed of the media and people’s decreasing attention spans. People watch longer YouTube videos at two or three times the pace to take in more information, listen to podcasts at double the speed to absorb more information, etc.

Additionally, people have been requesting this (keep in mind that TikTok videos can already be seen at double the speed), so it does appear to be a worthwhile and well-liked feature.

According to Instagram, its new 2x playback feature will be available to all users starting today.

In connection with this, Instagram has been developing a new app called Edits for mobile video editing. The software was supposed to launch this month, but Meta has postponed it once more. With features for recording and editing movies on smartphones, the software will compete with CapCut, which is owned by TikTok.

The App Store offers Instagram for free. To enjoy the new features, make sure you have the most recent version of the program loaded.
