Now, WhatsApp Users Can Add Music to Their Status

Reminiscent of the Myspace era, WhatsApp introduced a new feature on Friday that allows users to insert short music snippets in their status posts. The new function has been officially launched, even though it has been in the testing stage after months of early leaks and speculations, WhatsApp is finally releasing its long-awaited music integration for Status Updates.

The functionality, which was first seen in October of last year, began to appear for certain users in tests early this year. Now that it’s completely developed, users may finally test out music integration in a reliable environment.

With a new feature that lets users include short music snippets in their profile updates, WhatsApp is bringing back some of the nostalgia of the old internet. Popular music snippets may now be used in WhatsApp status updates; parent firm Meta says that availability will be extending “over the coming weeks” and spreading out internationally.

Instagram stories and WhatsApp’s status updates are now comparable and similar to Facebook and Instagram stories feature, WhatsApp’s status feature, which is found in the updates page, lets users post text, images, and videos messages that vanish after a day (24 hours). Thanks to Meta’s worldwide agreement with Universal Music, users should now be able to search through a huge catalogue of licensed music with expanded support for music integration. Users may select among millions of songs by tapping on a music note symbol while making a new status. A music note symbol that permits music to be uploaded will now show up at the top of the screen when users touch to post a status. Up to 15-second music snippets for icon images and up to 60-second films can be posted.

Music Clips’ debut comes after parent firm Meta introduced Instagram-like features that allow users to add tunes to posts, notes, and profiles.

WhatsApp claims to have “millions of songs to choose from” in its music collection and that users may choose the precise lyrics or soundbites to include in their status update. This feature is useful for joining in on viral trends. The in-status music upgrade comes after Meta gave Instagram comparable tools, which were originally made famous by similar features on now-defunct websites like AIM and MySpace.

Start a Status Update and touch the new music note symbol in the upper right corner to incorporate music. Look for your preferred music. A ‘For You’ list of music that you might enjoy based on your past searches should be included in the area if WhatsApp’s implementation is comparable to Instagram’s. After choosing a song, you ought to be able to search through it to locate the precise line or words you like to include in your status update.

Similar to texts, WhatsApp status updates are encrypted from beginning to finish. Although WhatsApp claims not to be able to view what users post or which songs are added to your status updates, it may not condemn you for having terrible taste in music, but neither will your friends.

With one significant exception, WhatsApp’s functionality is comparable: music posted on Status is end-to-end encrypted, so only friends can view the tracks. The tracks that users share cannot be seen by WhatsApp itself.

WhatsApp claims that the functionality is now being rolled out internationally and will become well-known in the next few weeks. For the record, I haven’t noticed any music integration yet, and this upgrade prevents me from verifying whether the recently discovered direct Spotify sharing is operational.

The messaging giant is working on other updates to go live in the future, even though music integration is now live. One of these may be a function that uses Meta AI to create WhatsApp profile pictures (PFP). According to WABetaInfo, the functionality was first seen about a year ago and is now beginning to show up for users of WhatsApp beta 2.25.9.8.

The tool doesn’t change your current or past PFP in any way, unlike what you may have assumed. Rather, it creates a picture entirely based on your instructions.

The functionality basically saves users the time it would have taken to navigate to Meta AI, generate a picture, save it, and then submit it as a PFP. Meta AI’s image generator tech stack is integrated directly into your profile screen.
