Facebook has now opened a sales office in Johannesburg South Africa making its first major office on a continent that has over 200 million active users with over 100 million of them on Facebook.
African brands have embraced Facebook adverts as a means of reaching more people across the continent. Ari Kesisoglu, regional director, Middle East North Africa in a statement posted on the CNBC site said “We know that a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work when it comes to building products and solutions that address diverse needs on the continent, which is why we are committed to creating solutions tailored to people, businesses and specifically for African markets,”
Other major tech companies already have a presence in many African nations so Facebook has joined a long list of companies who see a need to have a presence in one of the fastest growing regions of the world.
Facebook is leading a campaign in partnership with telecom companies across emerging markets using its intnernet.org platform to beam internet services to rural area. Senegal is the latest African country to benefit from this service.
