Well some of us expected this at some point because it makes some business sense but now its confirmed that Microsoft will be dropping the “Nokia” name from its Smartphone brand. This comes less than a year after Microsoft acquired the Finnish company for about $7.2b/ ₦1,187,280,270,699.90 in April. Please note that Microsoft only purchased the mobile division of the company and that the non-mobile division will continue to operate using the Nokia name.

New “Nokia Lumia” phones will now be called Microsoft Lumia. A post on Nokia France’s Facebook page confirmed the branding shift. The renaming will roll out globally in due course, Microsoft has said.

One can argue that Microsoft has gradually changed the once slow growing mobile Nokia arm into a profitable venture with increased demands for the products.
