Google combats piracy online

It looks as if Google has begun to heed numerous calls for the search giant to do more to protect artists using its internet search might. various experts and artists alike had called on Google over the years to demote searches for illegal download sites.

That’s exactly what the company will now do. So basically if you were to search for music download, you will be pointed to legal sites such as spotify and other legal streaming and download services like iTunes.

Google will now list these legal services in a box at the top of the search results, as well as in a box on the right-hand side of the page.

As you may know, Google has always argued that the internet should be a place where eveyone can express themselves and be free to post stuff except for child abuse claims among other human right violations but in this case of online piracy fight, there is  catch. So basically, if you’re a legal streaming or download service, you just pay for this service in order to have your service pop up on top just like it does with ads currently.

Music bodies have since embraced this new initiative but insist companies shoudn’t have to pay for this service as they believe search for legal services should not come with a price.
