Fancy getting verified on Twitter? Well the company announced yesterday that it was going to open its certification process to the public and this means if you meet the criteria, just about any user can get verified. All you need to need to do is to fill out a form by providing verifiable data like date of birth, phone number, email address and website in some cases.
The goal according to Twitter is to “help more people find great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for creators and influencers – no matter where they are in the world – to easily connect with a broader audience.”
There are about 320 million active users on Twitter and just about 187,000 of those users are verified. Besides the prospects of having more followers if you are verified, there’s also the ability to filter your notifications. So a verified user can choose to only see likes and mentions from other verified users. There are many public figures and brands on Twitter that still find it difficult to get verified on Twitter but with this, it should be straight forward. The process may have to go through a verification process before you eventually get verified or not.
That said, it still doesn’t mean everyone who wishes to get verified on Twitter will automatically get the blue check mark upon applying because Twitter still insists that this belongs to accounts that are determined to be of public interest. So if you think your account is in the interest of the public, why not apply today.
