GOTV Launches New Entertainment Package To Resist TSTV’s Competition

GOTV launches new entertainment package to resist TSTV’s competition.

After the uproar caused on social media by GOTV, the subsidiary has gone ahead to launch a new package that will supposedly offer ‘quality content and maximum entertainment to its viewers. As you know, this move is obviously standing to match up with the new TSTV which recently launched on October 1.

DSTV is the major satellite dish in Nigeria but as usual, only the elites can afford to pay the exorbitant monthly charges of the South African satellite TV service. In a country where there is hardly power supply and a majority of people work around the clock, only to watch the TV a couple of hours during the weekend, you can imagine that the situation is more like daylight robbery. Many agitated for the pay-per-view option, but then as the only supplier of the commodity, they serve as the judge and the jury.

However, things took a new turn when TSTV announced that it would launch pretty soon with amazing freebies. TSTV promises to offer a much more affordable subscription fee with 20gig free data and captured the hearts of many Nigerians with the pay-per-view option! Not only is these, the maximum monthly subscription charge N3000, all for a decoder selling N5000! What more could anyone ask for?

After TSTV made an official announcement, many Nigerians took to social media to shame the South African Satellite Dish company. In fact, this news trended on twitter with about 26,000 reports. The good news is that the Federal Government has TSTV tax-free operation for three years.

You will recall that when MTN, a South African telecoms giant first set foot on Nigeria, the price of a sim cost an arm and a leg and they charge per-minute on every call. However, Globacom, a Nigerian owned company broke the jinx and sold a sim card for N1, as well as charging per-second. This new saga is experiencing a similar trend as GOtv has recently launched a new package called GOtv MAX.  Mr. John Ugbe, the Managing Director of MultiChoice made this announcement. He said:

‘We understand that times are tough but that doesn’t mean that our customers have to miss out on world-class entertainment. Sports just got bigger and better with the GOtv MAX package. Our subscribers will get access to all La Liga matches, along with more entertainment choices for the whole family’

Accordingly, this is an effort to delight every active GOtv Plus costumers. Reports show that a number of GOtv subscribers are now enjoying certain new package options- SS Select 4, Fox Entertainment, Sony MAX and CBS reality.

Do you think this move came a little too late? Who says competition isn’t healthy? Whatever the case may be, I think the TSTV launch was the greatest independence gift.
