The latest announcement from Google at its I/O developer conference showed astounding growth in its Android platform. Monthly active users have surged to more than 1 billion, which is virtually twice the figure reported the previous year, at 538 million users. Notably, Google has revamped its assessment tactics – it once centred on total device activations but has now moved to track the 30-day-active metric. Prior to this point, Google’s Android already marked a significant milestone having reached 1 billion total activations, notably, the company celebrated its 900 million mark just before that.
This surge in Android’s active users monthly to 1 billion indicates a substantial upshot.
The app installation on Android devices too has seen a remarkable upswing, with a rise of 236 percent recorded from the preceding year. Quoting from the previous year’s keynote, Google mentioned a total of 48 billion app downloads across the Android platform.
Google’s concerted efforts towards Android tablets have not fallen short either, as they have managed to go beyond the iPad in recent years. Present statistics suggest Android now powers 62 percent of tablets, ascending from 46 percent in the preceding year, and 39 percent two years prior.
Going by the revelations during the I/O conference, mobile Chrome now houses over 300 million active users every month.
